This privacy policy applies to Maritime Competence AS and explains why we collect information about you and your business, how we use this information and how we take your privacy into account.
Maritime Competence AS, through the CEO, is responsible for the company’s processing of personal data. The policy contains information you are entitled to when personal data is collected and general information about how we process personal data.
Our basis for collecting and processing personal data is carried out in accordance with the Personal Data Act and consists of consent from the data subject or when necessary, cf. Personal Data Act § 8 & 9. Furthermore, it may be necessary to process personal data to fulfill an agreement with the data subject or to fulfill a legal obligation.
This privacy policy applies to the use of our products and our sales, marketing and customer contract follow-up activities. It also applies to individuals applying for a job at Maritime Competence AS.
Consent to the processing of personal data can be withdrawn at any time.
All our processing of personal data will be in accordance with the Norwegian Personal Data Act (lovdata.no) and the General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR which applies in Norway from May 25, 2018.
Who we are
Maritime Competence AS works in the following areas:
- Assistance in the purchase and sale of vessels and fishing permits, ship brokerage.
- Applications to public authorities in connection with the purchase and sale of vessels, the granting of fishing permits and other changes requiring application.
- Assistance in connection with newbuilding of vessels
- Assistance in the work of structuring and applying for financing from financial institutions
- Various advice within the areas mentioned above.

Today, Maritime Competence uses the data storage system “SuperOffice”. SuperOffice AS develops and delivers the computer program that supports our marketing, sales and customer service processes.

When do we collect personal data about you?
- When you use our services.
- When you interact with us in person, through correspondence, by phone, via social media or via our websites.
- When we collect personal information from other legitimate sources, such as third-party data aggregators, marketing partners, public sources or social networks. We only use this data if you have given your consent to them to share your personal information with others.
- We may collect personal data if it is considered to be in our legitimate interest and if this interest is not overridden by your personal interests. Before data is collected, we ensure that an assessment is made, so that a common mutual interest between you and Maritime Competence is achieved.
Why do we collect and use personal data?
We collect and use personal data primarily to provide assistance with buying and selling, shipbroking and company structuring, and marketing.
We may use your information for the following purposes:
- Send you marketing communications that you have requested. These may include information about our products and services, events, activities and promotions of our affiliated partners’ products and services. These communications require consent.
- Send you information about the products and services you have purchased from us.
- Carry out direct sales activities in cases where legitimate and common interest is established.
- Respond to a “Contact me” or other web forms you have completed on macom.no, Facebook or Instagram.
- Follow up on incoming requests (customer support, email, chats or phone calls).
- Provide personal ID for reporting and/or applications to government and public authorities.
- Provide access to our website.
- Carry out contractual obligations, order confirmation, license details, invoice, reminders and the like.
- Contact you to conduct surveys about your opinion of our products and services.
- Process a job application.
Our legal basis for collecting personal data
Collection of personal data based on consent
The collection of personal data based on the consent of the data subject will be done using consent forms that store documentation related to the consent given by the individual. Individual consents will always be stored and documented.
Collection of personal data based on contracts
We use personal information to fulfill our obligations related to contracts and agreements with customers, partners and suppliers.
Collection of personal data based on legitimate interest
We may use personal data if it is considered to be of legitimate interest, and if the interests of the data subject do not override these interests. Normally, in order to establish the legal basis for data collection, an assessment is made where a common interest between Maritime Competence and the individual is identified. This legal basis is mainly related to sales and marketing purposes. We will always inform individuals about their privacy rights and the purpose of collecting personal data.
What type of personal data is collected?
We collect the name, telephone number, title and email address of the licensees, as well as the company name and contact information. Where there is a requirement to report date of birth or social security number to public authorities or other statutory bodies, these may be collected and stored. We may also collect feedback, comments and questions received from you in service-related communications and activities, such as meetings, telephone calls, documents and emails. From our websites, we may collect IP address and actions on the website.
If you upload photos or videos, add posts or comments, etc. to our website, the information can be read by anyone who has access to our website and used for purposes that Maritime Competence or you do not have control over. Therefore, Maritime Competence is not responsible for any information you submit to our website.
If you apply for a job at Maritime Competence, we collect the data you provide during the application process.
Maritime Competence does not collect or process special categories of personal data, such as public unique identifiers or sensitive personal data.
How long do we store your personal data?
We store personal data for as long as we deem necessary to fulfill the purpose for which the personal data was collected, while also assessing our need to be able to respond to your questions or resolve any issues, to comply with legal requirements under applicable laws, to attend to any legal claims or complaints, and for security purposes.
This means that we may retain your personal data for a reasonable period of time after your last interaction with us. When the personal data we have collected is no longer necessary, we will securely delete it. We may process data for statistical purposes, but in such cases, data will be anonymized.
Your rights regarding your personal data
You have the following rights with respect to your personal data:
- The right to request a copy of your personal data that Maritime Competence holds about you.
- The right to request that Maritime Competence correct your personal data if it is inaccurate or out of date.
- The right to request that your personal data be deleted when it is no longer necessary for Maritime Competence to retain such data.
- The right to withdraw consent to personal data processing at any time. For example, your consent to receive marketing by email.
- The right to request that Maritime Competence provide you with your personal data and, where possible, send this information directly to another data storage entity when the processing is based on consent or contract.
- The right to request the restriction of further data processing, in case there is a dispute in relation to the accuracy or processing of your personal data.
- The right to object to the processing of personal data if the processing is based on legitimate interest and/or direct marketing.

However, we will do everything we can to ensure that your privacy rights continue to be protected.
Use of subcontractors (processors and sub-processors)
We may use subcontractors to process personal data on our behalf, we are responsible for ensuring that they commit to complying with this Privacy Policy and applicable data protection legislation by signing a data processing agreement.
If the subcontractor processes personal data outside the EU/EEA, such processing must be in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers to third countries or another specifically stated legal basis for the transfer of personal data to a third country.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
Maritime Competence reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time. The current version will always be available on our website. We encourage you to check this Privacy Policy from time to time to ensure that you are satisfied with any changes.
If we make changes that significantly alter our privacy practices, we will notify you by email or post a notice on our website before the change becomes effective.
